Borrowing and Returning

Loan Service

You can borrow most of the books in the Science Branch Library. Books that cannot be borrowed are marked with a yellow label "nicht ausleihbar". Journals are excluded from circulation. Scanners are available to scan individual articles (for free).

Borrowing books is usually done at one of the self loan machines.

Loan period and extensions

The loan period is four weeks; if the book is not pre-ordered, it can be extended to up to twelve weeks by any number of extensions.

The loan period can only be extended independently in the online user account, on presentation of the user card in the library or in writing by e-mail, stating the user number. Renewal by telephone is not possible.

Book returns and re-lending

You can return the items via the self return machine outside the library during the opening hours of the Erwin-Schrödinger-Zentrum. Books from all locations can be returned or borrowed again. In return, it is also possible to return books from the Science Branch Library or to borrow them again at all locations.

Fees and their payment

Fees may be incurred due to interlibrary loan orders, late loan deadlines, loss of reader cards, library items or keys. In the Science Branch Library, fees can only be paid by MensaCard (or the payment function of the CampusCard) at the self loan machine, by EC card at the counter or, in case of loss, by bank transfer after the University Library has issued an invoice.

Ordering books from the closed stacks

Stack items can be ordered via the Primus search portal. The following modalities apply:

• the ordered media are usually made available on the first opening day after the order from 13:00 h
• Exception: Rare books and holdings from the closed stacks that cannot be borrowed are not supplied on Saturdays
• You will receive an e-mail notification when the medium is ready for you
• after provision, the media are available for lending or on-site use for 7 days

Loanable stocks

The media are stored under the user number on the requested item collection shelves in the textbook collection.

Non-lending holdings

The media are available for you at the lending desk and will be handed over to you for use on site upon presentation of a valid user card. Media with the location "Rara-Magazin" (Rara, Hofmann collection, archive copies of dissertations etc.) must be used in the Rara work cabin.
