Wardrobe/lockers

You will need a padlock to use the lockers. Jackets and non-transparent bags may not be taken inside. Smaller laptop bags and sleeves (approx. DIN A4 format) are permitted.

• There are 250 lockers in the foyer (on the right in the cube), which you can use with a padlock (shackle diameter 5-6 mm). There are a further 1300 lockers in the basement.
  
• You are welcome to bring your own padlock. Alternatively, you can loan a padlock for the day at the Grimm Café for a fee of €1 plus a €10 deposit. You can also buy a padlock from the stationery machine, see below.

BiBtasche (library bag), padlocks and other items in the stationery machine

At the stationery machine (in the foyer behind the Grimm Café) you can purchase a BiBtasche (library bag) that you can take into the secured area inside, but you can also bring your own transparent bag. Here you can also purchase padlocks for use in the wardrobe and much more, such as USB sticks and stationery. Only card payment is possible at the stationery machine.

Permanent lockers for HU members

The Grimm-Zentrum provides 84 permanent lockers for members of Humboldt-Universität. These can be used until the end of each semester and can also be used overnight.

During the period of use, you will receive an allocated locker with a key on loan from us.

All permanent lockers for the summer semester 2025 are currently allocated.
Interested users can email gz-ausleihe@ub.hu-berlin.de to be added to the waiting list for the summer semester. If a locker becomes free during the semester, you will be notified.

The next regular period of use begins in October 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the lockers?

They are located in the basement of the Grimm-Zentrum, lockers 1-84.

Do I need my own padlock?

No. These special lockers are equipped with a library lock. You will receive the key from us on loan.

When are the lockers issued?

Always at the beginning of the semester. We will keep you informed on our website and via our social media channels.

What do I do in the event of loss or damage?

If you notice any damage, please contact us immediately using the contact details below.

If you have lost the key, security can open the locker for you. Please report the loss/opening by security to us immediately by e-mail.

Please note that the library and the university are not liable for loss or damage to the contents of the locker.

What do I do if I no longer need the locker?

If you no longer need the locker before the loan period expires, you can return the key at any time via the return letterbox, which is located at the entrance to the inside of the library (by the security desk).
