Subject Holdings in the Foreign Languages/Literatures Branch Library

The Foreign Languages / Literatures Branch Library offers stacks containing Romance primary literature as well as current teaching and research literature of General Romance Studies, Teaching Methodology and of Romance Linguistics and Literary Studies.

On the first floor (1. OG), you can find additional holdings on Theology, Philosophy, Education Studies, as well as on General Linguistics and Literature Studies. On top of that, there is also a collection of literature on Classical Philology, German Studies and English Studies relevant to Romance Studies. They are shelved according to the Regensburg Classification Scheme (RVK). Past these “fringe holdings” come the actual holdings pertaining to Romance Studies. The newer holdings are shelved according to the RVK and can be recognized by their two capital letters at the beginning of the call number. Older holdings however are marked differently. The following letter pairs are relevant for the holdings of Romance Studies marked with the RVK:

IA: Journals on Romance Studies

IB - IZ: Books of the different Romance languages and literatures

A large share of the current subscribed journals is permanently available at the journal display shelves.

The works of Literature Studies and fiction are shelved in order of era, as suggested by the Regensburg Classification Scheme.

It is important to note that subsequent to the holdings of a specific RVK group, the associated old stock is shelved there as well. These holdings are labelled with call numbers beginning with only one capital letter as well as one or more lower-case letters.

Romance Studies in the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum

It has been several years since the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum has consistently purchased literature on Romance Studies. However, on the ground floor (EG) you can find the textbook collection, where multiple copies of textbooks as well as basic literature are available for issue for university members.

Additionally, there is further literature on Romance Studies on the fifth floor (5. OG). These holdings mainly stem from before 2009 and are also shelved according to the RVK.
