Loan
General Rules on Borrowing Media
You can view your orders, loans and charges in your library account. You can extend the loan period of your media, update your e-mail address and check the validity of your ID card.
Out-of-house lending of media is only possible if a valid e-mail address is entered in the library account, because reminders, provisioning information and, in some cases, loan and return receipts are sent to you by e-mail.
Please use our online tutorials to familiarise yourself with individual aspects of the library account.
Details of on-site lending conditions can be found on the respective location pages. Special rules for day and short loans [PDF, in German] apply of the holdings from the branch libraries.
General regulations on borrowing can be found in the usage regulations (German only) and on fees in the library fee regulations(German only).
Reservations and Orders
All reservations and orders are free of charge. Please note:
-
Borrowed books can be reserved independently in Primus.
-
You will be informed by e-mail when the book is available.
-
You can find out where to pick up the item in your notification of availability (only applies to online orders).
-
Some media, e.g. some older journals, must be ordered by loan slip. Please contact the library information desk.
The University Library stores part of its holdings in closed stacks. Please refer to the page Media Stocks On-Site for ordering options and individual provision times. Most branch libraries make the media available for collection for the period of seven opening days.
Circulation Machines
If possible, please use the automatic lending machines at our locations, which you can use during the entire opening hours. At some machines you can also renew items and pay your fees.
You need a valid library card and your four-digit PIN. You can set this yourself in your library account.
On our tutorial pages you will find a video tutorial on how to set up or change your PIN.
Returning Items
Returning Items at the Locations
You can return borrowed UB media at any of our locations. Exceptions are the branch libraries Asia-African Studies, Japanese Studies and Classical Archaeology. Please give priority to using the return machines.
Interlibrary loans must always be returned to the location where they were issued. Interlibrary loans can only be returned at the service counters.
Returning Items by Post
You can also return items to us by post. In this case, however, you bear the risk yourself. The date of receipt at the circulation desk is always decisive.
Please use the following postal address:
