Using Computers at the University Library

Computer Use on Site

HU-Members

HU members log in with their HU account at the public computer workstations of the UB locations. Only then can the full range of services (online resources, programmes, drives) be used.

Non-HU Members

Non-HU members must first generate a UB account in order to use the public computer workstations. This requires a one-time change of your password in your Primus user account (pdf-instruction).

WLAN

WLAN is available at all UB locations for HU members. Members of other academic institutions can use the eduroam WLAN if their home institution also supports eduroam.

Please contact the Computer and Media Service for information on WLAN at Humboldt-Universität as well as for setup assistance.

Please also note our various options for using online resources on-site and via remote access.

In case of problems with the Öcaps or with the WLAN, please contact the CMS user support and also follow the CMS malfunction information.

Software Available for HU Members

The Computer and Media Service provides HU members with a selection of software free of charge:
Softwarelist of the CMS

HU members have the opportunity to purchase hardware and software at special conditions, e.g. MS Office 365 ProPlus.

Repro Facilities

For information on scanning facilities, please refer to the respective location pages under "Working on site". Unfortunately, printing and copying facilities no longer exist at the library locations.

Loan Pads

Registered users can borrow iPads on a daily basis. In the Primus search portal, you can use the title keywords "iPad Grimm Zentrum" to check whether tablets are available for loan. However, reservations are not possible.

The tablets can be used, for example, to participate in online events and video conferences. HU students may use the work lounges in the foyer, the solo-boxes on the ground floor, 3rd, 5th, and 7th floor, or the daytime work cubicles on the 5th floor for this purpose.

Lending, terms of use, return

Items can be checked out and returned during service hours at the circulation desk on the ground floor:

  • Mon-Fri 09:00 - 19:00
  • Sat 10:00 - 18:00

The devices may be taken out of the library, but must be returned on the same day.

For data protection reasons, the iPads are operated exclusively in guest mode. Logging in with a personal Apple ID is not possible. After logging out of the guest mode, your data will be automatically deleted. Please back up your data on the web, e.g. in the HU box.

  • Only one tablet per person can be borrowed.
  • A user agreement must be signed when borrowing the tablet. The person authorised to use the tablet can be held liable for damage and loss.
  • The installation of new apps is done by the administrators. We look forward to your wishes and feedback.
