Subject Holdings of German Studies in the Branch Library
Standard editions of German literature as well as current textbooks and research literature regarding general German Studies, teaching methodology, German literary study, and German linguistics can be found at the Branch Library for German Studies.
Literature on Theology, Philosophy, Education Studies, and General Linguistics and Literary Studies is located on the ground floor (EG) of the library. Alongside, materials on Classical Philology, general German Studies including teaching methodology, and German linguistics are shelved in accordance with the Regensburg Classification Scheme (RVK). Call numbers of the Regensburg Classification Scheme begin with two capital letters and can be distinguished from the call numbers belonging to old library stock that are made up differently. The major part of the periodicals currently held by the library is constantly available in the periodical display shelves.
Older journal issues are bound and kept in the basement (UG). Moreover, the holdings organized by the Regensburg Classification Scheme are continued in the basement. The literature on German Dialectology and Special Languages as well as the large collection on German Literary History and Literary Studies are shelved here alongside the belles-lettres organized by epochs.
Please note that the section on German contemporary literature is adjoined by old library stock that is shelved according to an old classification system. In contrast to the call numbers of the Regensburg classification, these old call numbers begin with a capital letter and one or more lower-case letters.
German Studies at the Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum
The Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum does not systematically acquire literature on German Studies, but it houses the Textbook Collection on the ground floor (EG) where, in addition to the holdings at the Branch Library for German Studies, multiple copies of relevant introductory works and textbooks are provided. These materials can be checked out by members of the HU only.
A small German Studies section can also be found on the fifth floor (5. OG). These books were primarily acquired prior to 2009 and are organized according to the Regensburg Classification Scheme (RVK) as well.
